Trafalgar Fall

Trafalgar Fall

Description

Falls is located in the heart of the Trois Pitons National Park.

This p Trafalgar air of waterfalls are easily accessible, they are located 20 minutes from Roseau (the capital) and it is possible to access after 15 minutes on foot.

These so-called twin falls are commonly called “Papa Falls” and “Mama Falls” and are the most visited places on Dominica. They are known for their freshwater pools, but also for their small hot-water waterfalls located on the outskirts.

Although less impressive than it was in 1995, when a rockslide engulfed the hot water basin, it’s still nice to sit in the hot water at the foot of the falls.

At 40 and 22 meters high respectively, “Papa Falls” and “Mama Falls” are among the most majestic waterfalls on the island.

Mama Falls, located on the right side, has its source in the “Breakfast” river, which can be approached during the ascent to the Boiling Lake.

Papa Falls, located on the left flank, is fed by the Freshwater Lake, through the Titou Gorge. It is also important because its strength is harnessed to produce hydraulic power, used throughout the island.

Biodiversity

In the heart of the National Park, the biodiversity of Trafalgar Falls corresponds to the tropical forest type.

The relief of the Park, modified by landslides, is explained by a particular phenomenon: the dense vegetation cover, together with the clayey soil, sometimes causes the collapse of the slopes when the cliffs are loaded with more than 300% of water.

Ecotourism potential

Although often overrun by cruise line buses or simply taken over by regular visitors, Trafalgar Falls is a prime spot to discover on Dominica.

The walk to discover it is short but it is still beautiful and is marked by the alternation of hot and cold springs, highly appreciated.

To make the most of it, it is essential to pass the platform that allows you to observe them and climb up to get closer to the hot and cold pools. It is advisable to be accompanied by a guide to find the small hot resurgences, about 30 minutes uphill, to relax the muscles.
