Bassin Bleu

Bassin Bleu

Description

Known as the most famous of Haiti’s natural pools, the Bassin Bleu (Blue Lake) is a picturesque natural site located in the southeast of Haiti, particularly in the city of Jacmel. Planted in a surreal setting, the Bassin Bleu is the symbol of perfect beauty. With turquoise blue water, fresh and pleasantly tinged with the greenery of a paradisiacal forest, this natural heritage is made up of four basins: the Cheval basin with a depth of 9 feet (2.7 meters); the 15-foot-deep Yes Pool; the Palmiste basin with a depth of 57 feet (17.4 meters) and the best known, the Clair basin that measures 75 feet (22.8 meters) deep and is fed by a waterfall of about ten meters offering an unprecedented spectacle What distinguishes it from the other three.

Biodiversity

Lost in a dense and humid greenery, the Bassin Bleu forms an ecosystem that is too balanced not to constitute a true refuge for various animal and plant species. Its four basins are mysteriously planted in the heart of a wild nature that is home to magnificent caves, ravines, toads, crabs, reptiles, shrimps, etc.

Ecotourism potential

Mecca for hiking, the Bassin Bleu offers unrivaled ecotourism opportunities despite the lack of maintenance and sustainable management of this natural heritage. These four impressive pools suitable for swimming, their caves, the vegetation of the area, not forgetting the turquoise blue of its fresh water, are elements that arouse the admiration and curiosity of tourists. Difficult to access, this site deserves to be well developed and cared for by local authorities with the participation of the population. This will help create jobs and strengthen the local economy.
