An Ecological Reservoir
These breathtaking landscapes also play a critical ecological role: mangroves absorb three to five times more CO₂ than a typical forest. Their underwater roots are equally vital. “If there are still fish in Guadeloupe, it’s thanks to the mangroves,” says guide Christian Rouel. Preserving this ecosystem means protecting it from mass tourism, especially preventing large ships from anchoring near the mangroves.
