Description :
The gallinule has slate-black plumage, with the upperparts being browner. A white stripe is visible along the flanks, and the median under-tail coverts are white. The pointed bill is red with a yellow tip and extends onto the forehead as a red frontal shield. The eyes are dark red, and the legs and long toes are greenish.
Habitat :
The gallinule lives near freshwater or brackish waters in wetlands with abundant emergent vegetation and sheltered shorelines. It can be found near ponds, calm rivers, marshes, and lakes.
