Botanical Garden of Les Cayes 

Description

Extended over an area of eight hectares, the botanical garden of Les Cayes is located at the entrance to the city of Les Cayes, in the southern department of Haiti. This scientific institution created in September 2003 by the agronomist Wiliam Cinéa is a member of the World Network of Botanical Gardens, the French-speaking network of Botanical Gardens and the Association of Public Gardens of the United States. This unique jewel in the great South, under the patronage of the Paris Natural History Museum and the Brest National Botanical Conservatory, features a plant conservatory, an ethnobotanical garden, an attraction area, an ecological garden and a cultivation space also called “the nursery”. 

Biodiversity

The Les Cayes Botanical Garden (JBC) is a place of environmental education and scientific production in terms of floristic biodiversity. It contains some 500 species of native, endemic and exotic plants, divided into several spaces. The first called “arboretum” is reserved for fruit trees. The second is the ethnobotanical area, where medicinal and aromatic plants make up the decoration. While the third is the ecological garden, where you can find a wide variety of plants. The conservatory space, the fourth space, collects and preserves all endangered species in Haiti and the Caribbean area. The other compartments are meticulously decorated for the enjoyment of married couples. 

Ecotourism potential

The Botanical Garden of Les Cayes, due to its abundance in terms of plant species, is an essential site for environmental research and experimentation. This relaxation area with pretty flowers is a paradise on earth in Haiti and receives about ten thousand visitors every year through its idyllic beauty. It is an emblematic space for the development of activities related to ecotourism, privileged for the promotion and enhancement of green and landscape spaces.
