Grande colline National Natural Park

Description

The Grande Colline National Nature Park was created on July 23rd, 2014 with an area of 1,510 hectares. It contains the Grande Colline mountain range in the heart of the Massif de la Hotte, in southwestern Haiti, west of Pic Macaya. It is made up of 5 peaks: Morne Desbarrieres (1,843 m), Morne Grande colline (2,025 m), Morne Petite Colline (1,860 m) and Morne Lézard (1,854 m). This park is one of the most remote and difficult to access areas of Haiti.

Sa biodiversité

The biological richness of this main point in terms of biodiversity is better known thanks to the discovery of new endemic species of both flora and fauna. It was the discovery of new species and the resulting ecosystem information that led to the park’s creation in 2014. Isolated patches of original forest containing giant tree ferns and hardwoods remain at altitudes above 1,800m.
