The Grand Bois National Natural Park was created on September 23rd, 2015. It is located in the southwest of Haiti, northwest of Les Anglais in the southern department. Le Morne Grand Bois is an isolated bowl-shaped mountain with remnants of primary rainforest. It has an original forest cover and a remarkable biodiversity, the existence of which has recently been revealed. Its highest point is 1,262 meters above sea level.
Morne Grand Bois is identified as one of the monuments of biodiversity in Haiti. In fact, it has a unique ecosystem that led to its creation as a national park. They rediscovered a species of frog thought to be extinct, the foothill robber frog (Eleutherodactylus semipalmatus). There are several rare species of trees, including a species of magnolia that has not been observed for decades. Of the 68 vertebrate species that were observed, four were new to science (three frogs and one lizard). A total of nineteen species of frogs were found, which is one of the largest numbers of frogs coexisting in the entire Caribbean.
