Created in 1956 by the American geological engineer Victor Wynn, the Wynne Farm Ecological Reserve is located at an altitude of about 1,300 meters on the heights of Kenscoff, 20 km from Port-au-Prince. This covers an area of 12 hectares and represents one of the water towers in the area that gives rise to several rivers such as La Momance, Rivière Grise and Rivière Froide. With its 400 hectares of land surrounding it, it was declared a “Protected Area” in 2019 (the official publication of the decree is still pending). Wynn Farm is recognized as an important area dedicated to preserving nature and teaching eco-citizenship.
The ecological cradle of Haiti, Wynne Farm serves as a refuge for approximately 200 species of plants and 300 families of insects, many species of toads, butterflies, and endemic birds to the country as well as migratory birds from North America and other regions of the world. This reserve contains thousands of species of trees. With its tranquility and greenery, it is a true paradise for all those who seek happiness in the midst of nature.
Since 1994, Wynne Farm has been a nature reserve open to the public. His foundation “Wynne for the Environment” organizes ecological tours, internships for agronomy students, peasant workshops on sustainable agriculture and school environmental awareness programs. The farm receives around 15,000 visitors a year. It teaches the importance of preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development for the healing of planet earth.
